Cat Holbert, Adventure Camp
Coordinator and Director of Retreat Ministries has a strong dedication
to outdoor ministries. She began at Westview as a Senior counselor
from 1994-96, she then spent 3 summers as an Adventure Camp counselor,
and 2 summers as Summer camp Program Director at Westview. Cat also
worked at the Shady Grove YMCA as an After School Care Site Director
and at River Road UMC as the Director of Children and Youth
Ministries. Cat finds nothing more satisfying than time spent outdoors
(usually with her dog) whether it’s hiking, canoeing or some other
great adventure. Cat is convinced that this summer in Adventure camp
will be one of the best ever, due to the fantastic staff, the new
adventures, and incredible campers.
Callie
graduated from Longwood University in December 2003 with a degree in
Liberal Studies and a concentration in Elementary Education. Between
most years, she spent her summer working at Camp Hat Creek in
Brookneal, Virginia. Upon graduation, she moved to Alabama for the
spring to work for Natures Classroom Atop Lookout Mountain. Once back
in good ol' Virginia, she has periodically worked as a substitute
teacher in the Chesterfield County school system and, for the last
year, George Mason University's Hemlock Overlook Center for Outdoor
Education. When Callie
isn’t busy snuggling with her bunny (or watching her eat out of the
litter box) she (Callie)
loves working (playing) outdoors, listening to music, reading, and
super nintendo. Callie is excited about sharing her love of God and
appreciation of the outdoors with campers this summer.
Samantha “Sam”
is a rising Senior at Longwood majoring in Math & Liberal Studies with
a minor in Secondary Education. She enjoys sports and being outside!
During the school year she works at Campus Recreation as a supervisor
and intramural sports official. Among her many extracurricular
activities; she plays on the women’s club soccer team, is active in
the Wesley Foundation, and is a member of Pi Mu Epsilon. For fun Sam
likes to play basketball, soccer, and volleyball as well as taking
road trips and outdoor recreation including camping, caving and
canoeing. She is looking forward to working with all the great campers
at Westview!
Michael is a graduate of ETSU
with a degree in History. There he was active in the Wesley Foundation
and involved in several mission trips. He has worked at camps since
1999, first at Buffalo Mountain and then Wesley Woods (both in
Tennessee). He’s recently returned from a 16-month internship at Camp
Suttle Lake in Oregon. He’s done almost every job there is to do in
the camp environment; from dumping trash to lifeguarding, from
teaching environmental education classes to leading adventure camps.
When he has down time he likes to adventure in God’s creation, whether
hiking, camping, whitewater kayaking or any number of outdoor
activities. He is caring, responsible, fun and deeply faithful. Mikey
is excited about the great adventure opportunities awaiting him at
Westview this summer!
Matt is a recent graduate from Longwood University where he wanted to study
Animal Calls and Wilderness Survival, but compromised with his parents and studied
Communication and Outdoor Education instead. Hailing from Midlothian, Virginia he
enjoys rocking out on his guitar, canoeing down rapids, backpacking through the
wilderness and learning new things like how to fix cars, surfing, and how to sleep with
his eyes open. At Longwood, Matt was involved with Intervarsity Christian Fellowship,
as the men's activity coordinator, small group coordinator and as a member of the
worship team. Also, he was a Teaching Assistant in the Outdoor Education program,
teaching classes and leading trips. Matt knows this summer is going to be a blast,
going on adventures into the great unknown with Westview campers. He is ready
have fun teaching campers the ancient ways of his forefathers (from Midlothian),
surfing, canoeing, rock climbing and maybe even building secret tree houses!
