Westview Needs

A Vision for Westview

Christian stewardship gives us the opportunity to give of ourselves. God's stewards give of themselves in many ways: time, talents, service and tithes.

Over the years, Westview on the James has been blessed in receiving many gifts from friends. These gifts, both modest and substantial, have made a significant impact on the development of Westview's programs and facilities.

At Westview on the James, we have the opportunity to give of ourselves in many ways. Westview has the need for funds, for gifts in kind, for service and prayer.

Here is an opportunity for you to respond, as an individual or member of a group, to others in need of help.

Current Westview Needs...

Westview has the need for the following items in 2005. The list below represents a sampling of some of the most-needed items for the coming year. Items which our program and maintenance budgets simply would be unable to take care of in a timely and necessary manner to insure Westview's facilities stay at their best. Perhaps you or your group could help fund some of these projects and/or be involved in their completion. Gifts for partial or full cost will be appreciated. Please designate your gift if you so desire. If you would like to contribute the item (rather than making a monetary contribution), please contact the camp office.

You can make a difference...

There is no doubt! The lives of children, youth and adults are enriched by the experiences at Westview. Whether it be through summer camp, a church retreat, a mission project, adventure camp or a day event, the opportunity to grow in one's faith, make new friends and enjoy the many natural and man-made resources is possible at Westview.

As Westview has grown over the years, the need for additional capital to help maintain, refurbish and upgrade our facilities has been increasing. Westview's Annual Fund was launched in 2002 for the purpose. The impact these donations have had on the life of our camp is significant. Every dollar donated helps enrich the quality of the Westview experience and brings us closer to reaching our mission.

To offer "a place apart" for Christian hospitality and learning that helps people of all ages affirm and grow in their faith as they experience the wonder of God's creation.

Transforming Experience s...

This was the young man's third summer at camp. After he returned home from his most recent week, he shared with his mother he would like to be baptized. He wanted the people who demonstrated a Christian lifestyle and shared their faith to be a part of this special service of commitment. He wanted to be baptized in a place where he felt closest to God - he wanted to be at Westview.

A group of youth, adults and other adults traveled a great distance from another state to offer a living example of their faith in action by offering their time and talents to a family in need of a little extra help. Days of hard work, prayer, laughter and sore muscles gave way to tears as they prepared to leave for home. Sitting around the campfire on their last evening at Westview they pondered- Who benefited most the family or them?

A camp counselor was saddened when the time came to stand in the counselor's circle one last time. He had shared many summers at Westview as a camper, junior staff and senior staff. The time had come to move on to a new adventure. However, he knew the experiences shared, faith developed and friendships made while at Westview would provide a strong foundation for a life-long Christian lifestyle.

The teenager felt the stress and pressures of school life were almost to much to handle. Her parents were understanding and supportive, but it was hard to share everything with them. That's when she remembered the upcoming middle school retreat at Westview. She decide to go and called a friend to come along with her. There she met old camp friends and made some new friends. Played games, sang songs and worshiped together. Climbed, hiked, went boating, studied scripture and spent some time with her thoughts in the out of doors. She felt better and rembered she was never alone.

Your Support & Gifts are Appreciated!
