"Frank E. Brown Society" Endowment

History

In 1966 the Richmond District had a dream. A place where youth and adults could camp and fellowship in an outdoor Christian ministry.

Led by A. Purnell Bailey, the District Superintendent, and Robert T. Casey, a local pastor, and with the generous financial support of Frank E. Brown, Westview on the James became a reality.

Now a beautiful 780 acre camp on the James River in Western Goochland County, it ably serves the United Methodist Church members of the Richmond, Ashland and Charlottesville Districts and many other groups.

Yearly, this camp touched lives of over 10,000 individuals including approximately 800 who attend summer camp.

The camp offers a beautiful lake, swimming pool, year 'round dining facility, hogans for 150 youth with bathhouse, a lakeside lodge for retreats, lots of river frontage, acres of wilderness camping and a host of other opportunities for Christian fellowship and training.

Gifts in Perpetuity: The Case for Endowment Giving

In 1997 the Board of Directors of Westview set up the "Frank E. Brown Society" endowment.

The board recognized the need for an endowment to (1) build a fund that would provide financial stability and enable Westview to stay in the forefront of Christian camping, and (2) provide an opportunity for Westview supporters to give a gift that would continue to give year after year.

The Endowment Plan allows for restricted and unrestricted gifts. This gives the giver an opportunity to choose how to support the camp.

The board representatives, lay and clergy from the three districts administer the fund through an investment committee. No more than 90% of the income may be spent which allows the endowment to grow with inflation.

How Can You Help?

The "Frank E. Brown Society" Endowment is available to receive most any type of gift.

Real or personal property, securities, life insurance, cash contributions or any other gift can be received by the Westview Endowment Fund.

The directors realize that a very high percentage of the gifts that are received will come through individual wills. The board urges you to consider a bequest to the camp when you make your will.
